Organic Sculpture: Material, Form and Structure
The foundation of my sculptural practice is the search for a balance between naturally occurring forms and deliberate artistic intervention. Wood is central as a warm, archaic material, whose symbolism embodies the vertical connection between the root system and the crown—between the depths and the world above. Formal Language and Use of Material My creative method is based on the partial preservation and stylization of existing, naturally formed structures. My aim is not to dominate the material, but to transform it: the starting point is often the natural growth patterns or distortions of the wood. My works are primarily non-figurative, organic forms, in which anthropomorphic or animalistic allusions occasionally become apparent. Technology and Contrasts The character of the sculptures is defined by the fusion of restoration techniques and classical sculptural methods. I deliberately focus on the visual tensions inherent in the material: Surface contrasts: The juxtaposition of raw, coarse texture (tree bark) and tautly polished, fine internal wood structures emphasizes the duality of the material. Material combinations: The warmth of the wood is contrasted by the cool, static solidity of the stone pedestals, defining the work's presence in the space. Gilding: I employ the refined technique of gilding not as decoration, but as a structural element. The reflective surfaces highlight the internal grain and the sculptural fractures of the wood. Through the conscious use of the specific properties of different wood species, I create objects in which primal natural force and technical precision appear as complementary units.
