Palais Trauttmansdorff, Vienna – Representative State Rooms

← To project overview

A suite of representative state rooms located on the beletage of Palais Trauttmansdorff, a palace originally dating from the 17th century, which underwent Neoclassical renovations and received rich interior fittings during the 18th and 19th centuries. The rooms are characterized by white-and-gold polychrome wall paintings and paneled wainscoting, extensive water and oil gilding, inlaid parquet floors, mirrored architectural elements, and historic lighting fixtures of high art-historical value.

Restoration measures: The work included comprehensive conservation and restoration treatment of the wall paneling, doors, frames, and ornamental interior fittings. White surfaces that had been overpainted multiple times were cleaned, cracks and damages were filled and supplemented, and extensive gilding reconstructions were performed. This included the removal of later bronze overpaintings and the restoration of the historic appearance. Missing sections of richly carved and cast decorative elements were replaced. The veneers of the parquet floors were consolidated and supplemented, and the surfaces received a waxed finish. The goal of the measures was to restore a uniform, historically authentic spatial impression.
