Schönbrunn Palace – Rösslzimmer (Horse Room)
← To project overview
A representative interior of Schönbrunn Palace featuring white-and-gold polychrome, wall-mounted wooden architecture, richly carved water- and oil-gilded decorative elements, polychrome and gilded wall panels, mirrors, and an integrated system of paintings and frames.
Restoration measures: Comprehensive conservation and restoration treatment of the entire interior. Extensive cleaning, consolidation, and leveling work were performed on the white-painted surfaces, including the repair of structural cracks and large-scale damage, as well as a uniform repainting. The gilded decorative elements were restored through extensive sculptural additions and reconstructions; this included the removal of earlier bronzing, the exposure and renewal of water and oil gilding, and fine patination. The missing jib door (wallpaper door) was reconstructed based on historical documentation.
